In this ten week course you will learn a few of the main percussion styles from Cuba and put them into a musical piece. You’ll learn where “Salsa” comes from and what “Afro-Cuban” means, and you will learn how to play various instruments such the claves, conga, bongos, timbales, and more.
As a part of this course you can also attend three SLAM Drum Jams, where you can enjoy expressing your individual creativity in a group setting (see other event listing).
The Spanish and Portuguese word, “tocar”, means to touch, and to play an instrument. SLAM, the School of Latin-American Music aims to keep you “in touch” with the music we play!
